what would it be helpful for on a Canon, or what to people use them for?
I want to get a lens for mostly close-up things like portraits, and to make bokeh, and good focuses, I am very new to DSLR’S, so what is a good lens for that?

I will assume you have something like a 18-55 mm lens and know it is used to shoot landscapes to portraits.
The 75-300 mm is used for shooting action, sports and wildlife, things further away than you can shoot using a lens limited to 55 mm.
Here is a link that will let you see what various focal lengths do when mounted on your camera

I wouldn’t recommend you waste your money on this budget tele-photo lens because it’s not a very good lens (that’s why it costs less than US$200).
From a review of this lens. . .
“The Canon EF 75-300mm f/4-5. 6 III USM Lens is really cheap. Usually you get what you pay for – unfortunately this is the case with the Canon EF 75-300mm f/4-5. 6 III USM Lens. ”
“Build quality of the Canon EF 75-300mm f/4-5. 6 III USM Lens is mediocre. ”
“Image quality from the Canon EF 75-300mm f/4-5. 6 III USM Lens is also mediocre. ”
“If you care about great image quality and sharp photos, the Canon EF 75-300mm f/4-5. 6 III USM Lens is not for you. And Photoshop cannot enhance details that are not there. ”
So, I think you really should think twice before considering this lens. You’ll need to spend more money if you want a good telephoto lens.
